The history of the Vechtehof

A home for horse and rider

Over the years, it has been and will continue to be our goal to offer all friends and customers of the Vechtehof a home where the horses entrusted to us are kept in a manner appropriate to their species and receive gentle, professional training. With great passion, riders as well as horses have been promoted to Grand Prix level at the Vechtehof since the beginning and have been presented at corresponding championships.

The training of Sabine and Wolfgang Egbers to become Pferdewirtschaftsmeister was influenced by great personalities of the equestrian sport. Here are just a few names to whom the couple owes their expertise in the training of riders and horses.

2021

In 2021, extensive modernisations were carried out on the entire yard area. These include the renewal of the paving and a new manure plate in accordance with the updated fertiliser ordinance.

2008

In 2008, a farm building with 13 boxes was extensively rebuilt to optimise animal welfare, resulting in 7 large, airy and bright boxes with windows both outside and inside.

2006 and 2011

In order to follow the trend of renewable energies to protect the environment, solar panels were installed on the roofs of the indoor riding arena and the stables in 2006 and 2011.

2000 and 2003

In 2000, the staff flats were extended and in 2003 the old bakery was converted into a guest house for our foreign customers.

1986 and 1987

In 1986, Wolfgang Egbers and his wife Sabine Egbers, née Wrzal, took over the Vechtehof after passing the master craftsman’s examination to become a master horse trainer specialising in classical riding training. After the construction of the indoor riding arena in 1987 and further conversion work on the farm, the farm was gradually expanded into a pure training stable.

1974 to 1986

The Vechtehof was run and built up as a breeding stable for Hanoverian and Oldenburg horses by Hans and Marlene Egbers and their four sons between 1974 and 1986.
